Erika 5 PM Saturday - What a Difference a Day Makes!

Tropical Storm Erika is no longer a tropical cyclone, succumbing to a hostile environment in the Caribbean Sea near eastern Cuba Saturday morning.

That doesn't mean there may not still be serious impacts ahead. Locally higher amounts of rainfall are possible where bands of rainfall train over an area for a short period of time. Despite Erika's demise, its remnant moisture will still be drawn northward into parts of the southeast U.S., including Florida, in the coming days. This is thanks to upper-air winds around high pressure southwest of Bermuda and a southward dip in the jet stream over the northern Gulf of Mexico. Therefore, a threat of locally heavy rain will shift into the Florida peninsula and the Southeast, and may persist for several days in the new week ahead. (this according to Weather.com at 5PM).
