Highland Beach Sea Turtle Event

Ambassadors East Residents to the Rescue!

Click on Picture for a Larger View
Picture taken by Christina A.

The story as per Marty Silver, Secretary AE BOD: "We found a Leatherback Turtle nest that a fox had gotten in to on the beach just south of Ambassadors East.  The fox had killed 9 babies but we found 10 live ones in the area. Some were not doing very well.  We took them to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center to bring them back to full strength."

Good Job, Marty and friends!

Only a Sprinkle of Rain!

Around 4 PM today Christina took these impressive pictures with her cell phone of an ominous looking storm over the Atlantic.  We only got a sprinkle of rain and no wind to speak of.  It all vanished in 45 minutes.  We thought you would enjoy the pictures.  To see full screen images of both pictures click on the links below. Your back button will bring you back here.

The best estimate from Basil Aiello for the completion of concrete work on buildings 3 an 2 is around the middle of October, 2014.   This information is being given in response to a comment (question) posted by an owner on the August 8th post below related to the concrete work now in progress on building 2.

AE Resident Questions

A resident posted a comment to the T.A.N. post dated 05/21 about the May 14th BOD meeting and asked the following questions:

"Does anyone know when the main driveway will be open again?"

"How about when the concrete work will be starting?"

1). The main driveway was opened today (05/23) and traffic to and from all buildings is back to normal.

2). Bids from contractors are being taken now and concrete work on Buildings 2 and 3 only should start soon.  B. Hicks stated in the May board meeting that he hopes the work can be completed in 2 or 3 months at the most.

Look for more details in the manager's report which should be published soon.

Lunar Eclipse from Building 3, April 15

Most of you have already seen a million pictures of Tuesday's lunar eclipse.  But maybe  not a sequence taken from an Ambassadors East building 3 balcony.  My camera did not catch much of the red.  But some color can be seen when the later pictures are enlarged. Anyway, here are pictures taken by your insomniac T.A.N. editor.  Click or tap here.  Note:  the picture you see on the left came from Google Images.

NOTE: A special note to those of you accessing TAN from an iPad, iPhone or Andoid Touchscreen device.  If, when you tap on the moon link provided above, you are not getting the  moon pictures, it is because your device does not have the app required to read PDF files (Adobe Reader).  Most of the very important links on TAN take you to pdf files (Board Meeting Minutes and Agendas, Rules We Live By, and almost everything under "AE Essentials" in the left column of links).

The good news is that the apps for Adobe Reader are free and can be downloaded from the iTunes app store or the Google app store.  Here are a couple of links to help you out.

Multi-Million Dollar Renovation in Progress for "Holiday Inn", Highland Beach

Now You See It

Now You Don't!

That's right. The Holiday Inn on A1A in Highland Beach is no more and the new name, of all things is The Delray Sands Resort on Highland Beach.  Read all about how this transpired in the newest issue of the COASTAL STAR, HERE.   We think this is a good thing for the neighborhood and will increase values, but, what the article does not reveal is that if you want to stop in with friends for Happy Hour or a glass of wine, it will now cost you $4.00 to park in the hotel parking lot.  Also, the lot on the waterway across the street is reserved for personnel.  Renovations are still in progress.  The rooms facing the ocean are completed (see a sample HERE).  The common rooms including indoor and outdoor dining rooms and bar area will be done most likely this summer.

T.A.N WISHES YOU A HAPPY AND HEALTHY 2014!

It's that time of year when most of us begin making a list of our "resolutions" for the coming year, most of which are followed for maybe a week or a month.  But, of course, our intentions are good.

It is also a time for looking back on the past year, the good times and the bad.  This year we mourn the loss of three of our long time residents; Harry Laufer, Anthony Galati and Violet Falcone.

It has always amazed me to realize the number of worldly figures who have been part of our lives  and who have passed away in just one year.  Here is a list with pictures of  77 of the people who  left us in 2013.  Click HERE to see the list provided by the Today Show. Click on the arrows in the upper left corner to view the next celebrity.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AMBASSADORS EAST!

Who Around the World is Looking at T.A.N. ?

We thought you may be interested to see who around the world is accessing our T.A.N. site as of today. By clicking on the images above you will see enlarged maps showing the location of the last 500 visitors to our site.  As you can see most of the activity is from the northeastern U.S. where most of our seasonal residents live.  They are using T.A.N. to follow the progress of AE upgrade and improvement projects throughout the summer months.

T.A.N. - A Little Behind in the News

So sorry for the lag in the news.  Your editor is still recovering from a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas.  The trip was lots of fun but now it's time to bring T.A.N. up to date and to start on a serious diet. See new posts beginning with September 5 post.

Tchaikovsky Flashwaltz

Tchaikovsky Flashwaltz at Hadassah Hospital

This video post may be a little off-topic for our newsletter, but I think you will find it as heartwarming as I did and I wanted to share it.  With all the trouble in the world today, this restores my faith in the kindness, ingenuity and talent  of the young people who will be taking charge of our world in the future.

Sea Turtle Volunteer Finds More Than Turtle Nests

Wednesday, 1:10 PM. - I just received an interesting email from Gary Mantoosh, our resident Sea Turtle volunteer.  It seems, early this morning during his sea turtle monitoring rounds, he discovered a large waterproof bale of cocaine washed up on the beach near Ambassadors East.  Being the good citizen that he is, he called the Highland Beach police and they came and picked it up.  Later, on his way to work he stopped by the station.  They informed him that the bale contained 60 pounds of pure cocaine and had a street value of approximately 2 million dollars!

Gary feels that he has done his good deed for the year.  It seems to this T.A.N. editor that there should be a reward of some kind for this find, no?
