Gerald Bregman Featured in July Edition of The Coastal Star

Once again Gerald Bregman of Building 1 has made the news.  This time he is featured in the July 2013 Edition of The Coastal Star.  Last year the Sun Sentinel did a feature about his experiences while serving our country in World War II and even T.A.N. did a 2012 profile on his experiences with a bio written in his own words. His story is fascinating... a Jewish American soldier who spent some difficult time in a German Concentration Camp.

Sea Turtle Nesting Activity - Ambassadors East

Over the past month a number of new turtle nests have emerged on our beach in front of AE. There are about 9 nests; most are located near the north end of building 3. There are more between buildings 1 and 2. Our resident turtle tracker, Gary Mantoosh is still heavily involved in the program. Recently he documented with video, a rare sea turtle--hybrid-- here in Highland Beach--the first ever seen-- mix of a loggerhead turtle and a hawksbill turtle. The FWC and Gumbo limbo Nature Center have Gary's video. This turtle did nest and lay her eggs, but being that it is a mix of 2 different species, the eggs are not suppose to be fertile.  But if they hatch in a month, it will be another first, ever!  Kudos to Gary.

You may remember our extensive article about Gary and the Sea Turtle Program published in the old June-July, 2011 issue of  T.A.N.  Click or tap on the link below to
